I was a sophomore in high school in 1991, and our church Reseda Baptist had headed north to Pismo Beach, CA, to conduct a Vacation Bible School (VBS). This was my home church. I had sung in choirs since an early age, I got baptized in the church, and by the time I graduated high school, I had traveled up and down the coast doing concerts and helping with Vacation Bible Schools.
It seems like a lifetime ago looking back at this picture, but this is where my heart for missions was birthed. Many of my friends in pink in this picture have married and moved away, but that summer, we had a blast getting to know the kids and helping them grow in their faith.
From time to time, I wonder how they ended up and what they are doing with their lives. Sometimes we meet people, and they become lifelong friends, and sometimes others come in and out of your life for seasons. This was one such season for me.
